OPT-OUT DEADLINE FOR STUDENTS STARTING SEPTEMBER 2022

SAKC Plan administrator: Studentcare

SAKC Insurer: Desjardins Financial Security Life Assurance Company

SAKC Health & Dental Plan

To help Keyano College students pay for the health services they need, the SAKC has partnered with Studentcare in order to provide students with extended health and dental coverage. The Plan is designed specifically to fill the gaps in provincial health care (the Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan) and other basic healthcare programs.

Who’s Covered?

All full-time students (taking at least 60% of a full course load), who are members of the SAKC, including international students, are automatically enrolled in the SAKC Health & Dental Plan. Only students enrolled in full-time studies in both Fall and Winter are covered for the full year. Otherwise, Fall full-time students are covered from Sept. 1, 2022– Feb. 28, 2023, and Winter full-time students are covered from Jan. 1 – June 30, 2023.

Students registered in the Power Engineering and Process Operations programs are covered for 1 year. Coverage is applied retroactively, starting on the first day of the month which they begin classes. Ex. A student starting class on Sept. 11 is covered from Sept.1 to Aug. 31.

EMT and Healthcare Aid program students have a 6 month coverage period.

What’s Covered?

Among other benefits, the Plan covers:

  • 80% for prescription drugs, up to $3,000 per policy year

  • Over $2,000 for health practitioners (psychologists, massage therapists, physiotherapists, chiropractors, etc.)

  • Over $200 in vision care (eye exam, eyeglasses and contact lenses)

  • Up to $750 in dental care (checkups, cleanings, extractions, oral surgery, endodontics, periodontics, etc.)

  • Travel health coverage (up to $5,000,000 per incident, 120 days per trip), trip cancellation and trip interruption in the event of a medical emergency

Visit www.studentcare.ca for complete details.

How Can I Save More?

You can further enhance your benefits by visiting health professionals who are members of the Dental, Vision, Chiropractic, Physiotherapy, Psychology, Pharmacy, and Massage Therapy Networks. You are covered for the insured portion of your Plan regardless of the health professional you choose. By consulting a Network member, you will get additional coverage. For example, by visiting a Dental Network member, you will receive an additional 30% off dental services. Visit www.studentcare.ca for more information.

How Much Does It Cost?

The Health and Dental Plan fee for full-year coverage (Sept. 1, 2022 – Aug. 31, 2023) is $252.00. Eligible students will see the following fees as part of their student fees:

Fall Semester:

  • Health: $63

  • Dental: $63

Winter Semester:

  • Health: $63

  • Dental: $63

Can I Change My Coverage?

If you are covered by another extended health and/or dental plan (e.g. a parent’s or spouse’s employee plan, not AHCIP), you can combine both plans to maximize your overall coverage and reduce or eliminate out-of-pocket costs.

Alternatively, if you have other equivalent coverage, you can opt-out of the health portion, the dental portion, or the Plan in its entirety during the Change-of-Coverage Period for programs starting Sept. 3 from Sept. 3 – 14, 2022 and receive a reimbursement shortly after the Change-of-Coverage Period. If you are eligible, the Change-of-Coverage Period is also when you can enrol yourself, your spouse, and/or your dependent children in the Plan.
